Welcome to Riverside Archery Club Website

Riverside Archery Club is a small friendly club of junior and senior archers aged between 10yrs and 80+yrs, with a wide range of abilities. We are based in the North-East of England at Thorpe Academy (Ryton), where we meet every Sunday and Wednesday. We normally have 2 shooting sessions on a Sunday, the first starting at 10am and the second around 1:00pm, members can choose to shoot either or stay all day for both.

In the Winter we shoot indoors in the school sports hall and then move outdoors onto the school field for the Summer.

We also shoot on a Wednesday evenings starting 6:30pm, indoors during the winter and outdoors during the summer providing weather and light allows.

For anyone who is interested in trying out this enjoyable sport, we usually run a couple of 6 week beginner's courses during the 'Indoor' season, led by one of our qualified coaches, although at the moment we are near club capacity and so have extremely limited availability on these courses. The courses give all the basic instruction on technique and safety standards so that the budding archer can progress in the sport with confidence - and hopefully much personal success!

Bow Types

Recurve Bow
This is the most popular type of bow used at Riverside. The handles can be made of many materials, the most popular being aluminium, but wood, resin and carbon fibre are also used.
The limbs can be manufactured from wood, glass fibre, carbon fibre, often with laminations of more than one type of material.
Arrows shot by recurve archers are available in wood, aluminium, aluminium with carbon, or all carbon, with feather or plastic fletches depending on the conditions and style of shooting.
